I’m a singer songwriter who loves to write music that I hope other women and gender minorities, (who may be navigating their twenties like me) can relate to. I write and co-produce them myself, and I also love championing other babes in music, as I write a lot for other artist projects in different genres of pop!
My debut single ‘Never Will’ is out on all streaming platforms on Friday the 25th August! It’s been a long time coming and I’m so excited to finally release these songs I’ve worked so hard on. It’s about finding the strength to walk away from a toxic relationship or situation, be that with a friend or romantically. I also have another song coming out in October so watch this space!
I’m heavily inspired by lyrics. I can remember hearing some of my favourite songs for the first time and being in awe of the storytelling. It is one of the main reasons I fell in love with songwriting and wanted to be an artist and tell my own stories. ‘Both Sides Now’ by Joni Mitchell and ‘Manhattan’ by Sara Bareilles really stick out in my memory.
Gracie Abrams would be the dream! Also Olivia Barton, Isabel Pless or Jensen McRae, as they are all incredible writers!
Be clear with your vision and don’t allow yourself to be shoehorned into something that doesn’t feel true to you! Also don’t be afraid to take on any role. I always used to say ‘I’m not a producer’ and had huge imposter syndrome around it, but the moment I started making demos and adding my own production to my songs was the moment I felt like I’d found my sound!
I mentioned her above but Sara Bareilles has a book called ‘Sounds Like Me’ where she tells the stories behind her songs, and how she has grown both as a person and a writer. If you are a fan of hers or of songwriting in general then I think you’ll find it interesting!
I am loving Abby Holliday, Corook and the new album from BLÜ EYES, which she produced herself which is awesome.
More female writers and producers!!! A recent study funded by Spotify showed that around 97% of producers are men, and that women only make up 12.7% of songwriters. Enough said!
