Haha, I actually love the phrase 'babe in music', and I'm definitely a babe in music!
I'm an artist that refuses to be defined by genre or expectations. I create music that inspires me and in turn I can only hope that it inspires others. I talk a lot about empowerment, freedom, liberation and self-acceptance in my songs. I believe that everyone should be allowed to express themselves as their truest self, and while that may not conform to some people's preconceptions, it will most definitely find its way to the people that are just waiting to hear your message.
As a woman in the music industry, I'm not afraid to push boundaries and most of my lyrics place the female in a position of power.
I'm so happy to be a babe in music :)
My upcoming release will be my first in Spanish and it's called 'Terremoto', which means earthquake in English.
It's an empowering Reggaeton bop that deals with a female turning the tables on the guy who she is in a relationship with. It's out on 6th October and there's an accompanying music video that is possibly the most daring one I've done yet!
I'm inspired by others that aren't afraid of being themselves, because I've spent a lot of my life not being confident enough to be myself. Seeing other people seemingly being fearless and doing what they love how they want to has certainly influenced me.
In a parallel universe, I'd love to have worked with Freddie Mercury. He is my ultimate inspiration. But since that is not possible, I'd love to work with Christina Aguilera, as she is huge inspiration to me, and a pioneer for women in the industry.
BE YOURSELF! It's very easy to let other people's opinions enter your psyche and interfere with your vision. Trust your gut and forge ahead with what you believe in.
100% 'Feel the Fear and do it anyway' by Susan Jeffers. A friend recommended it to me a few years back and it changed the course of my life for the better.
I have to admit, I am an old soul and I'm not too familiar with what's in the charts or anything now, but I will say that I'm loving Kylie Minogue's new material. I've been a fan for decades and she is 55 years old and still creating music that is pushing boundaries. She is a fantastic role model for women.
I would like for women and gender minorities to have the same opportunities as men in the industry. There are still things that it's 'ok' for a man to do that aren't ok for anyone else, or things that women are 'expected' to do that men aren't, for example. This has to change. It is time for this to change once and for all.
